Children’s fancy dress costumes are often worn only a handful of times before being discarded, thus creating a huge amount of waste.
We decided to tackle this issue by asking people to donate costumes to Green Caerleon for us to create a costume library. The response was amazing and we received hundreds of costumes in a matter of weeks!
Currently we only open the library for World Book Day, Halloween and Christmas and announce the dates on our Green Caerleon Facebook page and on Dates for Your Diary in advance of these occasions.
Anyone from the community is welcome to come along and browse the costumes. If you see one you would like to borrow then we ask for a suggested donation of £2 which is used by Green Caerleon for local environmental projects.
We ask that you return the costume by the date specified at the time of renting and that it is returned in a clean condition.
We would love to open the library more often so if you have any suggestions of a venue which could accommodate us or if you would like to volunteer on this project then please get in touch.
You will need to sign a disclaimer when hiring and please be aware of the fire risks.
