This is a new site, to improve it, please
We are passionate about raising awareness of and celebrating Caerleon’s existing green spaces as well as looking at ways to improve, enhance and, where possible, create new accessible green spaces for the benefit of both people and biodiversity. Green spaces include both communal places and our own gardens.
We have met with the biodiversity team at Newport City Council to discuss their plans for Council owned land in Caerleon and also discussed ways in which Green Caerleon can be involved in promoting and enhancing biodiversity in Caerleon.
This has included:
developing a wildflower meadow at Cambria Close
leaving strips of unmown grass in the park by the comprehensive school
promoting ‘No Mow May’
exploring opportunities to develop a community garden and orchard in Caerleon.
starting to create a ‘bee corridor’ through Caerleon.
plans to create an ecology trail for residents and visitors to enjoy around Caerleon.

We liaised with Lucy (NCC’s biodiversity officer) and instigated the following: paths to be mown to allow the public to walk through a natural wildflower meadow, future plans include fruit tree planting on the periphery (if possible) and bug hotels/habitats to be added around the site.
Future plans include reducing mowing to a single path

We’ve established a strip of un-mown grass. Future plans involve adding pollinator, bird and bat boxes, swapping not native species with native.
